Faith and values in family life

I am 45 years old and have been married to my wife Katy for 17+ years. We have four children, two of which live at home with us. Justin is 11 and Kristina is 14. We have a 22 year old son who lives in Michigan and goes to college there and a 11 year old daughter that we lost to cancer who is now in Heaven. I asked Jesus Christ to be my Savior and Lord back when I was 17 years old. When I accepted Christ as my savior I did not realize that Jesus also wanted to be the Lord of all. It was not until I was in my mid 20's did I realize that God has a purpose for my life and that he desires for me to serve him with everything that is within me. I was not raised in a Christian home so I did not have a Christian upbringing that some folks have had. I guess you could say that I tried life my way when I first got out on my own as a young man. My childhood was not the best and as a young man I was pretty screwed up. I had the typical Burger King mentality in that I wanted everything my way. Life has a way of teaching you valuable lessons quickly and I learned that life can be hard especially if you insist on doing whatever makes you happy.

I have been writing about my faith and family life in some of my blogs for many years. I like to keep it real. I am not a pastor of a church nor am I a theologian. I am a real person just like you with an average understanding of what I think God's word means in my life and that of my family. There are plenty of folks out there that will be more than happy to debate my understanding of theological terms and for that matter they will probably win. However there is something that no one can debate me about and that is how Jesus Christ has changed me from the inside out. Over the last 28 years God has changed how I feel about the world I live in. He has taken a broken, messed up and misguided soul and turned my heart of stone into a heart of flesh. As I write in my blog I will be sharing life experiences and thoughts that will be faith in Christ based.

I believe that we live in a real world and that we experience life and that sometimes life is hard. I believe that Christians should live out their faith in a real way before man. I believe that only by faith through Grace in Christ do we find the hope that we need to live our lives day by day. I believe that God gives us grace to live by and that none of us deserve it.

We have all heard John 3:16 and have it memorized. For God so loved the world that he GAVE his only begotten son that whomsoever believes in him shall not perish but inherit everlasting life. That means to me that Gods love is greater than any love than you or I could ever imagine. Despite our humanness and sinful nature He loved us enough to sacrifice his only son. That is love unimaginable. As a father I can guarantee you that I would not be able to sacrifice one of my children for anyone's sins much less the sins of the world.

I agree with the article that I read today here at Townhall. Christians have become to lethargic and wishy washy about their faith. We need to be willing to do whatever it takes to shout our message from the mountain tops. That does not mean that we need to be radical idiots that are only about the business of causing a scene. That means that we need to not be afraid of what we believe and we cannot remain ignorant about our faith. Why is it that many Christians are silent about their faith? Could it be because the only thing that they hear about God's word is only on Sunday morning in Sunday school or during the sermon? Do we really believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord? What will we be willing to sacrifice in this world so that the message of Grace and Forgiveness of Sins can be heard around the world? When the world looks at us can they tell a difference in the way that we live our lives or do we look like everyone else?

The bible says that they will know who we are as Christians because of our love for one another. I am here to say that those words are not reflective of what you might find in most churches. It has been my experience that in most churches they like to shoot the wounded. If you do not live up to our theological ideology of who a Christian is then you will not be accepted in our fellowship. I guess that I could write a lot about that having come from a failed first marriage.

Well, this was supposed to be an introductory first post and it wound up turning into much more. I guess you now have a taste of what you will be either reading from me or ignoring. LOL...

May God bless you and your household today.
